Elizabeth Vonner was the daughter of Cecilia Vonner (née Griffith) and The Right Reverend Edward Vonner, St. David's bishop. As such, he was also the bishop of the Diocese of St. David of the Church in Wales and of St. David's Cathedral in St. David, Pembrokeshire. As the Anglican Church does not require clerical celibacy, the position of St. David's Bishop became (although not officially, in action it was so) hereditary. While her brother, Henry, the former Dean of the cathedral, pursued the position of their father after he passed, Elizabeth aspired to move out to the open world, and moved to Aberystwyth to pursue her dreams of a career in law and attending the university there. During her second year in university, a substitute professor came in instead of her usual Legal Ethics professor. The professor became rather flirty around Elizabeth and eventually invited her to dinner. The two managed a brief affair, even after the default Legal Ethics professor returned to teaching Elizabeth. The affair lasted about two months, and Elizabeth was eventually impregnated with the substitute professor's child, Elizabeth's lover leaving no trace but a letter with an explanation after disappearing. The letter Elizabeth carried the demigod child for nine months. During childbirth, however, complications arose and the mother died during childbirth, the father absent. Custody of the newborn boy, who survived and was born healthy, was transferred to the new Right Reverend of St. David's Cathedral, Elizabeth's brother Henry.
Throughout his youth, Henry raised Elizabeth's son, who he named Edward (after the boy's grandfather), despite his mother's wishes for him to be named Lucas, to be faithful to the Anglican faith, and more specifically, the Church in Wales and the Diocese of Saint David. Edward was admitted to strictly religious Anglican education, in hopes Edward would take over as Henry's successor in the future. Henry also married Agatha Morgan, daughter of The Most Reverend, Archbishop of Wales Barry Morgan three years before the birth of Edward. Fraternal twins, a boy and a girl named Dunstan and Yolanda, were born to the couple nearly a year before Henry took custody of Edward. Throughout his childhood, he was often shunned by Agatha and her children (so long Henry wasn't around), as he would be taking over the senior position due to being older instead of Agatha's own son. Agatha would even go to the extent of neglecting and abusing Edward, not caring to feed him for days at a time and using physical acts to shame him. In school, Edward was also marked as an outcast due to his mother's past, who Dunstan continuously spread rumors about, as well as Edward's odd interests in music and the arts, as well as moving to England to pursue an actual career, instead of strong faith and differentiated behavior. Dunstan became the most feared bully in their school, and Edward would often be verbally and at times physically be abused by Dunstan and his group of close friends, in secrecy, away from the eyes of the school's staff.
Being admitted into high school, a new girl named Zoe was admitted into Edward's class. She too, was shunned by the rest of the students, and was harassed by Dunstan, after being rejected by Zoe. She had thick and curly, long blonde hair and green eyes, and her good appearance led to constant sexual harassment by the so called faithful Christians in her grade, but after observing it for days, Edward couldn't stand the sight of another hurt and stood up to her. During one of these encounters, Lucas found a sudden surge of strength and tackled Dunstan and his friends to the ground, releasing a blinding surge of light without even trying. Zoe led the confused Edward out of the crowd of spectating students, seemingly unaware of the blinding light that Edward unknowingly summoned and thanked him for his help, not seeming to have noticed it herself either. After the incident, on occasion, he would experience different supernatural events. During the nights, when he would go hiking in the plains around the cathedral to take his mind off things, a ball of light would appear to guide him through the darkness. He was sure, for some reason, the light would guide him east. He always felt more comfortable facing the east, the direction of the sun, especially at night, when the eerie darkness always disturbed him.
During one of the worst cases of abuse by Agatha, however, came Edward's breaking point. She proceeded to take a match and unlight it on his skin, several small burns on his body. As she was about to touch his lips with the match, a dome of material light sprouted in front of Edward, and in a bright flash, Edward found himself in the plains outside, Zoe waiting for him. Within moments, however, four monsters, Mares of Thrace, came out of a group of tall, thick plants and attacked the demigod. Zoe threw a bladeless hilt to him, which within seconds extended into a sword. By instinct, he slashed and fought the monsters, turning them all to golden dust. Zoe and Edward began running away. As they ran and later took a cab towards the nearest airport, Zoe began to explain to him that she has witnessed that flash of light in school, and has been keeping track of him through the wilderness. She revealed that she was a satyress, sent by Camp Half-Blood, to recruit him. She told him he was a demigod, a son of a Greek god, presumably Apollo, and a mortal. They took a flight to New York and that night, Edward was placed in Hermes' Cabin. He decided to take the name his mother gave him, Lucas, instead of the name Henry gave him, to pay tribute to her. After realizing how different he is, he came to admire her uniqueness rather than resent it after being so hurt by its consequences.
The next night at dinner, however, he went through the process the other demigods called "claiming", which would bring to his banishment from camp. A bright yellow symbol, depicting a golden helmet engulfed in flames, appeared above him, lighting up the night. A chain of gasps was heard and Alexander the Great shook his head in disapproval. He escorted Lucas to his office, explaining that his father was in fact Hyperion, a treacherous titan who supported Kronos in the titan war, and as such, no cabin was made for his children, and they were not welcomed at camp. He equipped the alarmed and traumatized boy with a sword, a shield, armor and a pack filled with equipment needed for survival, but he was sent on his way.
Lucas, absolutely devastated, managed to begin and pursue his dream of a career in rock music, hiding as a stowaway on a plane to Bristol. There, he worked hard to get discovered during the day, but during the night he would train, using the equipment given to him by the director of Camp Half-Blood along with his powers to master his abilities. After years of hard work, he was discovered by a label who wanted to take him in and he became a major success globally, yet in particular in the United Kingdom, adoring fans always surrounding him. The feelings of resentment by the gods and his father, and the appreciation of his mother were still living inside of him, but he didn't let them take over him. He kept training while pursuing his dreams. A year after he hit success, he went touring in the United States along with other successful rock artists. During one of the most successful days in the tour, he was visited in his hotel room by a masked and robed man, who introduced himself as Heinrich. He claimed to catch on the fact that he was a resented demigod, and told him about the Broken Covenant, a cause that rebelled against the rough treatment by the gods, and that he always had a place there if he wanted it. Lucas said he would have to think on it and went on touring.
Going on with the tour, he met another recognized and appreciated artist from England named Darius Gauge. During an after-party, the two got to get to know each other and speak about music-related subjects, and eventually came up with an idea to collaborate. After speaking briefly with their agents, the idea was approved and once they got back to England, they started working on an album together, getting to know each other personally while making music. While recording it, Darius and Lucas met a trio of artists named Mortis at a convention and requested they join them on their album. The album did very well, due to the large fan bases of all the artists. Eventually, Mortis, Darius and Lucas formed a band named The Source.
Over the years of their success, the five band members became very close on a personal level as well. In particular, Lucas and Darius had a very tight bond. During one night of few too many drinks, Lucas and Darius made love, a night they would remember as the beginning of their relationship. At first, there were no romantic feelings involved, and their relationship was based purely on intercourse, but over time, they started to develop feelings and became a couple. Lucas and Darius got a lot of media attention, and their fellow band members were jealous, feeling as though they were only backdrops in the scheme, leading to the eventual disbandment of The Source.
Lucas and Darius continued to make music together, as a couple, until Darius felt it was the right time to come out to Lucas about his childhood experiences in a group home, making his way into success with a band who picked him off the streets, along with his odd powers, whose origins he had not even a clue about. Lucas took the news rather well, not surprised even in the slightest, sympathizing greatly with Darius' misery. Lucas confessed about his own knowledge concerning the Greek gods and their role; about his experiences as a child of Hyperion and being banished from camp once claimed. Lucas brought up the possibility of Darius being a demigod himself as well, and that night, his suspicions were confirmed as Oizys, Darius' mother, contacted Darius in a dream, revealing to him her affairs with Sigmund Gauge and his abandonment at the group home. His mother didn't seem to be interested with his feelings in the slightest, and seemed to enjoy his feelings of sorrow. Even if she did have any regrets, it was too late.
The following morning, Darius shared the contents of the conversation with Lucas. Lucas became angered once more by the gods' neglect. Lucas then decided to admit to being contacted by a man named Heinrich while he was touring in the United States, and finding interest in his offer to join a group that would rebel against the harsh treatment of demigods. Lucas and Darius decided to pull their recording contracts, giving a final interview of parting to their fans and flying out to the United States to pursue their interests in rebellion against their mistreating parents.
